|Jimmy Murphy, Sixteen Tons Rock 'n' Roll
Jimmy is actually a country artist. He was born on October 11, 1925 in Republic, Alabama. During the fifties he recorded in several studio's in the Nashville area for Columbia and RCA Victor. When rock 'n' roll became an item in the mid fifties, many country singers added some rockabilly to their repertoire. Some of these country-boys were even quite good at it too (like Skeets McDonald) and Jimmy Murphy's "Sixteen tons rock 'n' roll" is also very memorable, with some great harmonica backings from Onie Wheeler.
Jimmy Murphy's RCA Victor and Columbia recordings have been re-issued by Bear Family Records on BCD 15451.
