|LIVE, Hot Rod Trio
Golly Gee records GGR 1045
The high-octane music of The Hot Rod Trio began in 1991. Members Buddy Dughi, Suzy Dughi, and Pete Bonny enjoy playing all forms of rockabilly music, whether it's a revved-up hot rod song, a traditional finger-pickin' tune, a danceable swing number, or a crazy psychobilly song. The band actually had its beginning with Buddy on guitar and singing, Pete on drums, and Steve Herney on slap bass. In 1988, they cut a record (on pink vinyl) entitled "Cruisin' all Night." In 1989, they were the national winning act on CBS's The Gong Show, under judges Mr. T, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Jacko, and the Barbarian Brothers.
When Steve had to leave the band to go off to college, the search for a bass player began, and Suzy fit in perfectly with her looks, playing and singing ability, and style. The same trio has been together ever since. Based in Orange County, California, The Hot Rod Trio has been consistently tearing up California and the West Coast. They've released two CDs, have been featured in many magazine articles, and have had some television exposure. Their live shows are very dynamic and memorable. They look forward to seeing you at their shows, supporting live rockabilly music.
Hey cats, get ready for a real gone live set, be it on CD, but still a great way to find out what Buddy Dughi and his Hot Rod Trio sound like on stage. The band plays a great selection of self penned orginals from their album "Hi-Octane Rockabilly" and some neat cover version of old classics like "Long Blonde Hair", "Hop, Skip and Jump" (Vocals by Suzy) and Buck Owens "Hot Dog". Examples of great Hot Rod Trio originals are "Cat on the Loose" and revved-up neo-rockabily song "Demon's Got A Motorcycle". Great gig, wish I'd been there when it happened!
