|It's Christmas Time Again, Manos Wild
Manos Wild is back in the scene, this time with his first Christmas album. After his EP Christmas release "Hurry Home For Christmas" in 2013 and three Holiday singles ("It's Christmas Eve After All" , "A Letter To Santa" and "Another Lonely New Year's Eve") the time for a complete Christmas album is finally here!
The album is consisted by 14 songs. Among them there are 6 brand new Christmas songs written by mr. Wild himself. The opening theme "Christmas Time Again" is a strong rockin' tune. Tenor Sax player Babis Prodromidis is a guest and adds a powerful solo on this one while Mr. Wild's guitar follows. "Please Santa" and "If She Won't Come Home For Christmas" are two excellent new songs with upbeat rockin' tempo that talk of the hopeless effort a lover makes to see his loved one for the Holidays (in one case hoping that Santa will listen to his plea and bring her back before Christmas morning) . Both the songs manage to deliver Holidays feeling in the air while the great Rocker "Rock & Roll Mistletoe" that closes the album reminds not much of a Christmas song but brings a Rock n Roll dynamite in the house! "What Good Is Christmas" is a new Gospel Christmas song written also by Manos and refers to the real meaning of the Holidays that is not more that the birth of Christ while "Christmas Without You" is a brand new strong emotional ballad of lonely Christmas days and nights.
Of the covers the real surprise comes with the rendition of Vera Lynn's 1937 hit "The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot" also famous by Nat King Cole's version. Re-recorded from its EP release with Eugenios Anastasiadis on flute, Babis Prodromidis on Sax and Ioanna Ganiti on trumpet as guests and the addition of more brass the song becomes a swing/ rockabilly standard. In the same style follows the cover of the traditional "Deck The Halls" , a powerful swing/ rockabilly version with guitar solo, and brass!!
From the rest "White Christmas" is based on the Drifter's doo wop version combined with Michael Buble's arrangements but also with the addition of guitar phrases and solo and more voices, chimes and bells! Elvis Presley's "On A Snowy Christmas Night" and the classics "Silver Bells" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" come to ease down the pace a little and give a Holiday traditional feeling into the album full of comfort, joy and warmth. Last but not least there is a touching version of "Silent Night" simply with a piano and backing vocal that gets a very deep and rich feeling and emotion while the classic "Santa Bring My Baby Back" from Elvis' 1957 album is as a matter of fact a very good and strong cover with a guitar solo, strong vocals and a classic Elvis-like ending for all the Elvis fans around the world!!
Christmas time is here and if you search for a Rock & Roll Christmas with new sounds and bright covers then this album is the right choice for you!
