|King Drapes Stomp, The King Drapes
Raucous Records, RAUCD 129
Here's one for the Teds. Pure and simple, that's what I think The King Drapes' music is all about. Straight forward Teddy Boy rock 'n' roll from Finland. A brand new Raucous album which contains both old and new songs. At least I think it does, I do not know the complete recording history of the band, but at least it does contain a new (2002) recording of the club hit "B.S.A.", which was previously released on the the Fury comp "1,2,3,4 Listen To The Teddyboy Roar". This song alone is worth getting "King Drapes Stomp", it's a classic already.
You'll also find some songs from the King Drapes album "My Rocker", (Cold Eyed, Come On Little Mama, My Rocker) and from a few other releases like "Joutomies" (I Got You), "Ei Kukaan Muu" (Yellow Man). Other tracks are new to me, but as with many Raucous releases, there is no recording information in the liner notes. The recording dates span from 1998 to 2002.
Anu-Katja's voice is sexy to say the least and the music is great rock 'n' roll all the way. Nine tracks are King Drapes originals, written by Sami & Anu-Katja Savolainen. The (almost) instrumental "Teds" stands out above the others, but songs like "Teddyboy Ridin' Round" and "Big Boys" are pretty darn good as well. The last track "Three Guitars" was recorded live in 2001 (previously unissued), and it displays that the King Drapes can deliver on stage what they record in the studio. Great album for all Teds and Rockers!
